Ulster Hall Reopens
Belfast’s Ulster Hall reopens after renovation. The Lagan gets a mention!
A HALL STORY
Stories, posters and programmes about Belfast’s Ulster Hall are part of a special exhibition marking the re-opening of the building. Lagan Legacy provided some interviews, and an image of an old Ulster Hall opera programme dated 1923.
The programme was originally printed for a short season of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘Pirates of Penzance’, but there was an additional maritime link. The opera was performed by the Harland and Wolff’s Queen’s Island Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society. Thankyou to Terry Madill for a photograph of his wife’s grandfather, ship’s upholsterer Jimmy Finlay, who was a trombonist in the orchestra.
